Calculus Affair: What happened to Wagg's son?

In the 2nd-to-last panel of The Calculus Affair, Wagg's son was screaming and clutching his body. What happened there?

Haven't you ever been a bit naughty?
If someone has been naughty he needs to be punished, and in the "olden days", what might the punishment have been...?
Take a look at Lampion's killed berret and the bow in the boys hand. That's is a piece of circumstantial evidence to me.
