massive asked Can anyone tell me if they differ?, and if I should pick Farr's book?

Oh yes, it's a different book. Michael Farr was allowed access to Hergé's archives and the wealth of material found in it is not in any other book. Definitely worth picking up.

There is also a fair bit on Hergé's life in Phillipe Goddin's "Hergé and Tintin: Reporters" but it is mostly about his work and hasn't been in print since 1987. Worth getting if you can find it though.
