Our heartiest congratulations to Professor Philip Mortimer (of
"Blake and Mortimer") who recently
got married. No, he did not (as some in a certain community may have hoped) marry Captain Francis Blake - the lucky bride was Aunt Sidonia (of
"Spike and Suzy").
The happy event took place earlier this month at the Centre Belge de la Bande Dessinée ("the Belgian Comic Strip Centre"), was hosted by two leading publishers, Dargaud Benelux and Balloon Media, officiated by Bert Kruismans and attended by many leading Belgian writers and illustrators.
Photos of the wedding can be found
here and include a couple of lovely ones, such as Mortimer having some trouble getting the ring on Aunt Sidonia's finger, or standing on a stool in order to make a kiss!
Actually, the event was in order to promote a new book "L'Ouvrage de référence sur la bande dessinée belge" by Geert de Weyer, a history of Belgian comics, including both the Flemish and the French-language versions.
Click here for another photo of the couple (actors in make-up) holding a copy of the book.
The "ceremony" was a sort of rapprochement between the two language-divided industries, Mortimer representing French comics while Aunt Sidonia represents the Flemish. Bert Kruismans is a comedian, well known for raising the issue of Belgium's lingual divisions.
