Carrieadas' hat a Brosse and Clackwell. Pun on Crosse and Blackwell.

Please could you comment this pun and explain to us how you come to the conclusion it is worth mentioning?
Is it also drawn somewhere in the corpus?

Thanks in advance.

If I may answer for Ranko...

Crosse and Blackwell are famous in the UK for their various food brands particularly Branston Pickle. (I love it, especially in a cheese sandwich). Bross and Clackwell is a nice spoonerism on this devised by the English translators.

Why is it worth mentioning? Well, this post so far appears to be a list of brand names, real and made up in the books, so why not?

Is it also drawn somewhere in the corpus?

Carreidas mentions that he has lost his “pre-war Bross and Clackwell” just before he is hypnotsed by Kanrokitoff into believeing he is wearing it.

Another brand name I like is Bettaspecs - “See clearly with Bettaspecs” - from the opticians display sign in the Calculus affair. There's an opticians quite near me in Kentish Town Road called Betterspecs. I've always thought they might have actually got their name from the Tintin book.

"Kler" shows instead of "Bettaspecs" in Turkish translation of 'Calculus Affair' album, translated from French version.

Good explanations about Bross and Clackwell.

With pleasure Levent, it reads ”(DE)MENAGEMENTS CRACQ FRES.“

Also, I'm interested to know where “snakebite” (in your list) is seen in the books.

I think we should make a difference between the trivia threads, and ones in which we discuss and develop our study of the series. We have over a period of years developed a number of guides and lists to help people reading the books understand them.

Something like this list is really only valuable if it cites the book or books in which they appear, and if they can be explained as Harrock did above for the 714 reference - it seems a little unfair, therefore, after that to turn it into a guessing game.

Let's keep the information flowing, rather than stemming it with spot quizzes, eh?
