Ginger_Tuft:
Castafiore would be...a young, hot pop artist?

I'd turn her into a fifty-something phenomenon from a Scottish council estate who conquers the world that was originally set to mock her. Haddock may even get to appreciate her that way.

Hmm... Mct16, I wonder who you're talking about? :P She definitely fits the role, although she's much more humble than Bianca Castafiore.

Interesting though it is to picture Tintin & company running around adventuring in our day and age, I do have to agree with the idea that our modern technology would make things a bit too easy for them. Tintin in Tibet wouldn't have been quite the same if Chang had just used his cell phone to call for help, after all (yes, making an assumption that he would've gotten a signal there, but you know what I mean...)!

Not that a modern-day setting wouldn't work, of course; it would have to be done right--without the technology being the cop-out when the going gets tough.

And in "Calculus Affair", Haddock, from the helicopter, could easily call the police from his mobile without being interfered with by Wagg and his amateur radio.

Could be that Tintin is a product of his time. It would be interesting to know how Herge would handle a situation like that nowadays, like the writers of "Sherlock" with Benedict Cumberbatch.

I'm kind of surprised no one mentioned this already, but Tintin would have some problems going after bad guys. Cars are much harder to ste...er, "borrow" these days.

Wow just as well Tintin didn't live in the 21st century, based on the comments he would have had a lot of problems. He lived at a perfect time. Mind you Herge, being the genius that he was, could probably work it all out!

Maybe Tintin will finally get amnesia or however you spell it. And Haddock would have a lot of D.U.I.'s. Don't know about the Thom(p)sons...

Well, in Tintin in Tibet, Captain Haddock wouldn't trip over all those tent strings, or guy-ropes or whatever. All the tents would have fiberglass poles, no strings at all! Of course, that would mean we would miss out on a nice comedy moment!

Even if there were fiberglass poles, he'd find a way to trip over them... He always does :) Also, can anyone imagine Tintin wearing Toms? They're a kind of shoe that are really popular with young people in the U.S. I'm not sure if they are available in the U.K. or in Australia but a google search will probably give you some good pictures (:

Fiberglass tents without strings at all? Really? If the tents are dome tents, then the tents, in some circumstances (especially if you hike in the Himalayas), will actually still need some strings, say, to strengthen the tent construction (and to tie the fly sheet firmer so that it wouldn't be blown up easily by the wind). But of course, there are a thousand ways for Haddock to trip over a tent! XD
