I wonder if anyone out there can help me. About 14 years ago, my husband was given a figurine of Tintin sitting in a red armchair reading a book, with a smaller figurine of Snowy and a working standard lamp beside him. I've managed to break it - the trouble I'm in...!
I know that these statues aren't available any longer.
I've phoned the Tintin Shop and the Bloomsbury store and I've tried on eBay to get some kind of estimate as to the value so I can claim this on our insurance but with no luck.
Does anyone know of any cartoon figurine valuer or expert who would be willing to help?
Many thanks!

Whoops, oh dear! I'm no expert but maybe I can help as I have a book with values of some figurines. I'd need a bit more information to narrow it down though (there are quite a lot in the book!) First does it have a manufacturers name on it, (Pixi, Leblon-Delienne or something else?) or even a serial no.?

The red armchair, lamp and book with Snowy sounds as if it's from either The Broken Ear or King Ottokars Sceptre (it would help to know). Also, did you mean a working lamp?

Would it perhaps be the one on this page? If so, it was made by Pixi in 1992, ref. Pixi 30004, from King Ottokar's Sceptre.

I think they did a couple with working lamps, the other was from The Shooting Star, and had Tintin clinging to a lampost.

Thanks Richard. Uh-oh, that just happens to be one of the rarest Pixi objects... (take a seat) with a value, according to BDM, of 2000 euros.

Hope the insurance pays out :/

My heart goes out to you Alice and your husband. If it is the one in the link Richard gave, then it is a really beatiful work of art you got. Sure hope that it will work out somehow. Maybe it could be repaired by some expert. I know that there is ways to restore paintings, porcelain, films and other old valuable objects. Perhaps your yellow pages there is restorations companies.

Found some web pages that might be useful.

And thats just a few of them. Hopefully that was any help.

Thanks to you all for your help. It is indeed the Pixi one (ours is no 329) with a working standard lamp. Could you let me know what BDM is and where I can get hold of it to show the insurance guys please?

I'm not sure it's available anywhere in the UK so you might have to order it online from a French/Belgian store. Here's a link to the latest edition at Amazon.fr

In that edition it's on page 908, under "Objets".

I've just looked at the page and although I see it is "un must", my French isn't up to much I'm afraid. Could you let me know what it is and who writes it - is it some kind of valuation bible for collectible figurines?

My apologies for not explaining earlier; it's the recognised price guide bible covering French language comic books, and other related collectables - it's also called Trésors de la bande dessinée (the BDM comes from the authors second names; Béra, Denni and Mellot).

You might also want to do a search for "BDM" in the search tool (at the top of the page) as it's been mentioned a few times before on the forum.

I'd have to say that it's not exactly "un must", not the most exciting read, lists of prices. However, it does have a certain "je ne sais quoi" for French and Belgian comic dealers, comic specialists or plain old Tintin anoraks like myself. And of course people in heap big trouble like you ;)
