I'd love to read it just out of curiosity.

Yes, I downloaded and read it too, about a year ago ... and I'll tell ya, Rik, it isn't WORTH your curiosity. The smut content is mild and it is in fact more of a lame satire on corporate greed (Moulinsart being the iconography) than the bit of "Tintin Gets In" toon porn it's purported to be.

I can't remember the name of the artist-writer, but there's a series of far naughtier, far more graphic, far better drawn (and full color) Tintin sexcapades out there. Only in French, so far as I'm aware, and I've only seen one "album" that I borrowed briefly from a friend ... and you know, the truth is, even THAT was disappointing.

I mean, okay, fine, we get to see Tintin "do" Castafiore (among others), but assuming such things have shock value for you, after the initial raise of your eyebrows, what is there? It's all an elaborate one-joke premise.

I think what those of us pooh-poohing these satires may be saying -- or saying TOO -- is that they'd be tolerable if there were any actual WIT involved. Adding genitalia and nudity and etc. is not much more than the adult equivalent of saying pissy-poopie.

There's a subtler issue at work here too. Sexually or otherwise, it's very hard to effectively parody TINTIN because built into its matrix ALREADY is a healthy dose of social satire. How much and of what sort varies according to the story and what point(s) Mr. Remi is making at any given time, but since he IS a master satirist, his work is not a deserving target -- nor even a fruitful one, because it's a MOVING target. Trying to satirize Herge's work is (with apologies to Dr. Seuss) like putting a hat on top of a hat.

That said, I DO wish Moulinsart (with apologies to Mr. Remi) would finally allow other *authorized* and *commissioned* writer-artists to carry on and expand the cannon with AUTHENTIC new tales ... it's a wonderful franchise and couldn't help but generate new excitement with some new voices telling new adventures.

Although I was disgusted by "Tintin in Thailand", I couldn't help laughing at the stupidity of the bashi-bazouks when they put together scenes that were absolutely unbelievable (if and only if there was no sexual content and if there were no attacks on Moulinsart ). Tintin and Co. were really misdrawn (esp. the Thompsons) and the story is a complete mess. I'm not sorry about it being from bookshelves, though. I saw way too much stupidity in 62 pages...

I would like to point out a funny inaccuracy in "Tintin in Thailand". On the last page of the story, there is a whole display of some of the major Tintin villains (described as being "Bangkok's Underground"). Among them was...Mitsuhirato!! Didn't he commit HARA-KIRI? Then, that must really be Bangkok's underground!!

Unless they resurrected him...

But looking at how wildly inaccurate the rest of the story was, and how little senstivity it had towards Herge's world/characters, it wouldn't surprise me if they HAD completely overlooked the fact this character was dead.

Unless they resurrected him...

"That's a good one!"--Captain Haddock, "Tintin and the Picaros"

That shows the extent that the makers of "Tintin in Thailand" have strayed from Herge's imagination!

The plot of THAILAND is nauseating, the language crude- but where it succeds is in the way the book gets on to Moulinast's nerves. not to everyone's... rather anyone's taste.

(if and only if there was no sexual content and if there were no attacks on Moulinsart )

If those were left out, there wouldn't be anything left. It's a disgusting, vulgar attempt to attack Moulinsart but a real fan would never like it.

I actually have a copy of "Tintin in Thailand", but for me it is a freak-show item (the only one so far). And when freak shows are involved, no genuine respect exists (think of some of the less-that-flattering portrayals of exotic cultures as being "strange" or "outlandish" as being examples of such irreverent presentations). Really, that's the spirit for my keeping the bad stuff...

of all the tintin pastiches/ parodies i have read, tintin in thailand and to a lesser extent tintin in lebanon are different.
at least the many other pastiches respected herge and his creations- and maybe the only aim of the authors were to get some underhand profit - but THAILAND and LEBANON are a sore for the eyes.. and a disgrace to herge and tintin

After reading this forum, I down loaded Tin Tin in Thailand. I wasn't expecting to read something along the lines of a Herge' masterpiece, so I wasn't too disappointed.

I laughed at the author of this satire's name Bud E. Weyzer because he probably had several kegs of Budweiser to come up with such ridiculous concept for a Tintin story.

Thailand was funny for maybe the first 10 pages, but after that, I was just too board to go on.

I think that it would have been a lot funnier if the story was much, much shorter, the characters had funny names that derived from their real ones , and if the author didn't make references to other Tintin books so that the reader could understand the humor.

If one is going to satire Herge's masterpiece, one should make sure that it is darn good, and not some rejected idea for a Saturday Night Live skit.
