About a year ago a gentleman from the British Film Institute wrote and asked if I knew when the Quick and Flupke series were first published in the UK. I did not have the answer, so I referred the gentleman to the British Library.
Does anyone know when the Quick and Flupke series were first published in English?

Yeah, I've seen a couple of the books in English...they've got one or two in the Library here, I believe.

No idea when they were translated, though. I'll put the books on hold if possible and see if I can find out :P

Well, they were. I have looked up the bibliographic records of the books in question on the web catalogues of all six legal deposit libraries in the UK. According to the catalogues, five out of the six legal deposit libraries hold both "Double Trouble" and "Two Of A Kind" in paperback format; and all those copies were first published by Mammoth in 1992.

At this point I can almost say, with confidence, the books were first published in the UK by Mammoth, in 1992, in paperback; however, this very edition has been noted by one library as 'New Edition', which may or, may not mean a different/earlier edition exists. So, it would be good if Paul could get his hands on the books and find out the imprint details for us.

Hello there...
I've got 'Double Trouble' and can confirm it was published by Mammoth (an imprint of Mandarin Books, in turn an imprint of Octopus Publishing, in turn a part of the massive Reed International) in 1992. The Belgian edition of this collection was published by Casterman in 1985.
It's a great little collection of slapstick vignettes. I'm sure I've seen it in bookshops fairly recently. Mine cost me £3.99, but that was about 10 years ago.

Just had a quick look around and while Amazon.co.uk don't stock the book (indicating it probably is out of print), there is a copy for sale in the UK at www.abebooks.co.uk, a wonderful second-hand book site that has taken far too much out of my bank account in the recent past.
It's being sold for £8.00

I just picked up 'Two of a Kind' from the library: it was first published in English in 1992, by Mammoth (Methuen).

It also has a line:
"English translation by Leslie Lonsdale-Cooper and Michael Turner"
with directly below that:
"Copyright (C) Methuen Children's Books 1992"

However, as the books are made up of several episodes selected from the complete series, it's possible that some of the strips have been translated before (unofficially). But that's mere speculation. :)

Yes those two are the only ones published in the UK, I know cos yesterday I went and checked in the British Library, had fun reading them and Popol Out West.

The Q&F with the two large and small pears still cracks me up
