Curses! Missed it :(

Anybody know how well the contestant did? Even better, how about posting the questions here so we can all see how we'd have got on!

Hardly seems fair though - I mean, a mere 24 albums-worth of Tintin vs. a hundred years of murders, or English Historical Buildings, all of 'em!

I took a break from work to watch it. The Tintin chap did pretty well - I got the feeling he knew the answers to the ones he didn't get, but, you know - the pressure, and being on TV and all that. From the 'specialist subject' round, all contestants, bar one, got 8 points (including our Tintin chap), and the eventual overall winner scored 14 on the Zulu War 1879, which he did brilliantly on.

John Humphries (the presenter) brought up an old and simplified myth by asking the contestant about Hergé's apparent racism, which was dealt with well enough.

I think most people on this forum would have answered many of the questions correctly, not accounting for being in front of an audeince, John Humphries, a stopwatch and 3 TV cameras closing in on you!

As well as the question of racism John Humphrys also asked our contestant what the appeal was - "to a lot of people there is no appeal, they can't understand it". I guess we won't be adding John Humphrys to our "famous fans" list...

Can anyone give us an insight to what the questions were?

Most of them were fairly straightforward - how do you tell the Thom(p)sons apart? What is Castafiore's nickname?

Two which got me stumped were: The plot outline which formed the basis for Destination Moon was the result of a collaboration between Jacques Van Melkebeke and which close friend of Hergé?
In 1936, Which journalist said to Hergé that the adventures of Tintin should be in colour?

Bernard Heuvelmans.

In 1936, Which journalist said to Hergé that the adventures of Tintin should be in colour?

Charles Lesne (this one I had to look up :-)).

The question about Charles Lesne is a bit "tricky". In 1936, Charles Lesne was not working as a journalist but was working for Casterman, the publisher. He was the closest adviser to Louis Casterman, regarding the Tintin albums. You'll find a number of his letters to Hergé in Tintin noir sur blanc, a book about the various editions of the black and white albums.
Lesne had previously been a journalist at Le XXe Siecle, and suggested to Hergé that he should publish his books at Casterman.
Four years ago, there was a similar problem on French television's version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire?. You can read more about that issue here.

Tintin was again a specialist subject on Mastermind on BBC2, on the evening of Friday, December 2nd, 2016.

Abhimanyu Chaterjee, an investment analyst, sat in the black chair and answered questions on the Boy Reporter.

I won't give any further details yet, in case anyone has still got plans to watch it, but I'll try and remember to update with more information at the start of next week.

If you live in Britain, you should be able to see it on iPlayer for the next 30 days.
