On Saturday it was announced that Pierre Tchernia, producer, screenwriter, presenter, animator and actor, had died.

Asterixologists would know him best as a friend of Goscinny and Uderzo who often appeared in the Asterix comics: from the nerve-racked centurion in "Corsica" to the drunken legionnaire who is carried away on a shield by Goscinny and Uderzo on page 2 of "Obelix and Co." He also featured in "Asterix Legionnaire" and "Belgium". He was also the screenwriter for several of the Asterix animated films.

Click here for some of his scenes in Asterix and photos of him and Goscinny. There is also a drawing in which he interviews Asterix, Goscinny and Uderzo over the forthcoming "Asterix in Switzerland".
