Additional Captain Haddock's Curses Found in Turkish Edition Books

Below are some colourful anger expressions used by Haddock, which are found in the 1989 Turkish translations but do not appear in the English books. Turkish-English translation by Başar Kocaoğlu of Izmir, Turkey.

  1. In the name of billions of blind whales!
  2. In the name of blue whales!
  3. In the name of one thousand crippled whales!
  4. Goat-bearded old goat [To Professor Calculus]
  5. All because of this Tournesol animal! [To Professor Calculus when unsuccessfully trying to obtain instructions from the half deaf scholar. Red Rackham's Treasure.]
  6. In the name of typhoons, I am going nowhere with these mobile fire extinguishers! [Addressing llamas in Prisoners of the Sun]
  7. In the name of stinking dolphins! [Exclamation upon seeing land at the end of The Shooting Star.]
  8. Army of bachi bozouks! [Tintin in Tibet]
  9. An imitation of a lift or a broken lift! [Tintin in Tibet. To Buddhist monk after levitating and hovering in the air for a short moment.]

Note: in Turkish translations, most of the curse words include "in the name of-definition"; whereas others are single words as "damn", or "whales".
