We had another Tintin club meeting last night. It was total chaos.

There are two 6 yr olds in the club, three 8 yr olds, two 9 yr olds, three 10 yr olds, and one 13 yr old. I was trying to have a discussion on the boy adventurer genre, but the instant I said " Today we're going to discuss the boy adventurer genre" half the kids said " BORING!". Just because I said the word genre! Seriously! Then two sixes, an eight, and a nine started pretending to be puppies. I finally got them calmed down and got everyone to sit on the couches, made sure everybody knew what a genre was, and explained the boy adventurer genre to everybody. I then went around in a circle and asked everyone what their favorite genre was. That was very funny. Two kids said Tintin, one kid said Spirou and Fantasio, and one said The Black Island. I explained all over again what a genre was while trying to separate a wrestling match between an eight and a six, and stop the other six and a nine from poking everybody with a plastic sword.

By the end, I was feeling that a good investment for the club would be to buy everybody a seatbelt and a gag. Does anybody have any ideas other than that on how to stop the chaos?

You sound like Tintin with a flock of Abdullahs!

Maybe most of them are not old enough to discuss literature per se. If you're stuck with mostly junior members, maybe the meetings could focus on enjoying Tintin books, videos, etc. If they are interested enough to come to a meeting, that's a good sign (I think). Also, hide the plastic sword. ;-)
