There's will never be a new Tintin album until the copyright ends in 2054 or 2053.i find this kind of silly. tintin in the congo already is in color. why they are re-releasing it again? i can understand tintin in the land in the soviets. they should of put tintin in the land of the soviets in color for tintin 90th birthday. that would of make more sense to me. anyway let's see what they going with this. let's hope they not doing this for money. because that's what their good at. poor hergé.

I wonder whether they are planning to colourise all the black and white albums, because that would be cool.

What is the appeal of having black-and-white converted into colour? I know that it makes it look more modern but for me there is a certain nostalgic charm in having a film or comic strip shown in its original black-and-white format which is ruined in colour since it loses its period charm.

Yes, of course. But it seems like that they are doing exactly that and personally I do not have any problem with that. The original ones are pretty hard to get hold of anyway.

They may be trying to rip-off Tintin fans through these apparently needless publications but in their defense, they are just trying to do something new to expand the Tintin market.

It appeals to people who like colour? It doesn't harm the black and white art to colour it (no black and white volumes are harmed in the process), so why not?
The Soviets book is actually beautiful in colour, and it makes it considerably easier on the eye during some of the more meandering passages.

Sounds like more emphasis on commercialisation that art! Money over quality! :(

Come on, be reasonable. I find it a piece of luck that the publishing house has not forgotten Tintin and is trying to do new things with the character.

And maybe you have missed it but Tintin is copyrighted to earn from the Tintin sales. Tintin could have very well been in the public domain with hundreds of non-Herge adventures- pastiches and what not.

Now which one do you think would degrade the quality of Tintin?

You have already established that you don't care about the quality, as you think it shouldn't be being done, period.
To throw a commercial concern into the mix now seems to be protesting too much, and just reaching for reasons to complain about it - I mean, you presumably don't work for free, but you expect them to?
They are a commercial entity, why shouldn't they make money from it? It pays for the museum, the archives, and the wages of the people who work for them.

The copyright in it exists, come what may - Tintin will only be in the public domain when that expires, which is 70 years after Hergé's death.

Anyway, here is a link to the announcement of the book, and the complete cover.

I was just considering an alternative!

Anyway, it says that the digital colour Tintin in the Congo will be released on the Tintin app on the 10th of January, 2019. Now anybody know whether it would only be in French?

I am also looking forward to the other suprises they are talking about.

mct16: I agree. they doing this for money. :(

--

I don't have tintin in the land in the soviets. only the black and white version. and from looking at the color version it's looks pretty.... excuses my french, lol, but crappy? when they color tintin in the land in the soviets it was from a computer. i understand that we are living in a time where things are being use on a computer but it doesn't look so good. it looks like it been throw together. i seen a lot of things in color on digital and they look way better than this. i'm pretty sure tintin in the congo gonna look the same as tintin in the land of the soviets. this is just my opinion.

mct16: I so agree with you. the quality doesn't look so good.

--

Shivam302001: yeah. but if they gonna do it. at least give us better quality. i agree with mct16.

--

jock123: yeah but hergé told them not to touch Tintin after his death. it hasn't even been 70 years yet. i understand they have to make money but their breaking his rules. we can blame Nick Rodwell for this.

--

I feel this isn't a good idea. let's see how this goes. i hope the africans look better and tintin and snowy are nicer to the animals and the africans.

Well, for that to happen you basically have to change the story right? ;-)

Because in the original Herge version, you know how it is between Tintin, the Congolese and the animals.
