They are taking reservations on this gift set. Does anyone know more about it? I know it cost $150Usd.. I would like to know some more about it. What will it consist of?

Going from the listing on Amazon.com, it looks like a boxed set of the complete Adventures of Tintin in hardcover. Little Brown's online catalogue seems to suggest that it consists of the already published 3-in-1 volumes, but curiously makes reference to "all 8" volumes, when, as far as I know, there are only 7 in the series. This could possibly mean that an additional volume may be incuded with Soviets, Congo and Alph-Art... that's all I could glean from a quick Google - anyone else got anything a little more conclusive?

That would be awesome!!!

But not awesome for someone who had all the 7 volumes already. And will need to buy the whole set again just for volume 8. So hopefully they will sell Vol 8 separate.. Anyone think they will come out with volume 8?

If they were doing something like publishing volume eight separately, they would also need to change the format of all of the previous seven volumes. Think about it: Currently, volume one is: America, Cigars and Lotus. If they were going to have volume eight, which would be Flight 714, Picaros and Alph-Art, they would be obliged to reorganize, and make volume one be Soviets, Congo, America and so on, so I think that the gift set is unique. I don't know why the gift set has not been released yet, though, because Amazon says that it should have been released in November.

I’m a bit confused - haven’t the compact editions been a set of eight books for some time now (since early 2007)? There’s a thread about it here. It’s entirely possible that this would be the basis of a box-set (is this the one? You don’t give any link to explain what you are talking about, or who “they” are, but I’m assuming you mean Amazon).

I’m also fairly certain that Little Brown have dropped all intentions of releasing an American edition of Congo following the controversy last year, so I think this might be another example of Amazon not taking old info off their site.

Well I already have all the books, so I had to think hard to buy this collection for just the cover box it comes in. Even when my collection is unneven: I have 'Congo' in French; Tintin in America and the 2 Moon books in Spanish. The rest is in English. I have a few in hardcover, but most aren't.

Still: it's tempting.

Thanks Jock, that answers the original question much better than my blundering in the dark! (I've been out of the Tintin loop for too long!)

It looks like a nice little set, but I think I'll stick with my full-sized books. It might make a nice present for my nephew though - I got him the DVD box set last year and he's obsessed with it! He's got access to me and my brother's old 70s paperbacks, but they're all looking a bit yellowed and shabby these days!

There are two hardback volume sets. There is one set that is volume 1 to 8 which has soviets and congo and alpha. Than there is the other set. That has 7 volumes also in hardback without alpha congo and soviets. So maybe the box set on amazon will be the set Jock has of all 8 volumes. The set i have is here http://flickr.com/photos/jaredigital/201067905/ The other set that jock may have containing volume 8 can be scene here http://www.amazon.ca/Adventures-Tintin-8-Herge/dp/1405229012

So i guess the amazon auction for the collectors set will be vol 1 to 8 in a nice and cool looking box set. Nothing to do with the first volumes on the flickr website.. Jock is this post ok with you/ Did i meet your standards? Or im sure you will find something to fight about. Just relax im not out to start problems i want tintin info and you seem it necessary to fight with me.

No, I’m not fighting with you, Tintin Noob, I’m just politely asking you to treat other members with respect, without resorting to moderating you; it isn’t necessary to resort to baiting me about it either. They aren’t just “my” standards, they are the standards of the posting guidelines and forum rules which you agreed to abide by when you signed up.
All I was doing here was trying to work out what books you were posting about, as you didn’t offer any information at all in your post, and inform you that the Amazon set (which isn’t an auction) isn’t going to happen as Little Brown won’t release Congo.

Is there a chance that they just delayed the release until all the bad publicity blew over? I remember hearing about the Congo controversy on the news a little before the original release date for this set. Now that people who have no idea who Tintin is are no longer concerned with the controversy, maybe Little, Brown will release it under the radar of people who like to gripe about anything and everything in the news.

I say this because I noticed on the Hatchette Book group site it describes the set as "Little, Brown is celebrating 100 years of Hergé with a new hardcover boxed set." and Buy.com has a release date of April 1, 2008 (1 month and 21 days left to celebrate 100 years of Hergé). Also, last week there was no listing for the set on Amazon.com and now there is a listing with cover art. The price is still full retail which is unusual for Amazon so close to a release date.
