I've noticed that some tv-channels although broadcasting from England uses CET instead of GMT

Interesting point, I never knew that.
BTW, do you put your clocks forward/back one hour for summertime/winter respectively? This is one area of time that I can never understand why we do it.

The name daylight saving time might explain it. When the sun rises earlier they (goverment or some such) thought we should get up earlier to make use of all the light. Sort of.

MTV (Europe) broadcasts from England but uses CET for showing which times programs start.
Ah, I see. I don’t have MTv myself, but I think there is a UK station and a European one, sharing faciilities in Britain, presumably as a cost saving measure. Although the programmes eminate from the UK, the MTv Europe customers all live on the continent so it would be peculiar to use anything other than the local time for the majority of viewers. MTv broadcast within the UK to British cutomers is scheduled to GMT/BST.
