We are pleased to bring the following event to your attention. Alexander Drew has written to us:

"Michael Farr has very kindly offered to give a lecture entitled "Tintin Ace Reporter" at the Wigmore Hall, London W1, on Saturday, 22nd October at 3.00 pm, in aid of The Simon Drew Foundation (SDF), a charity set up in my late father's name in 2009.

The SDF aims to raise money to enable under-privileged young people to develop their potential through education, instruction or training in professions, vocations, industries, crafts, trades or the skills needed in employment.

I was first introduced to the Kaibigan Ermita Outreach Foundation, a small independent NGO, devoted to the care and welfare of urban poor and street children in Manila.

I visited the slums where the children lived and was utterly shocked and appalled by their living conditions.

That visit was the catalyst to setting up SDF in 2009 and it was decided that our first project would be to fund a scholarship scheme to enable selected, hard-working children from Kaibigan to obtain vocational training or college education after secondary school.

We are selling tickets via https://www.justgiving.com/sdftintinlecture for £20.

If people did want to donate without buying a ticket they can go to https://www.justgiving.com/simondrewfoundation."

I am sure that you will agree that this is a cause worthy of our support; the Foundation is doing admirable work.

Michael Farr is the premiere Tintinologist of our time, added to which he is a most engaging and entertaining speaker. He says of the SDF, "Tintin is a very suitable subject for a charity concerned with street children – as you know, Tintin championed the cause himself, supporting the orphans Chang in China and Zorrino in South America."

If further incentive were needed, Egmont have arranged for copies of his Tintin: The Complete Companion to be on sale at the event, so this is a great opportunity to get a copy and meet the author.

As Alexander puts it: "It is, hopefully, fortuitous that this coincides with the release of the new Tintin film."

So why not get into the mood for the film, and attend this great event, or if unable to attend, support them with a donation?
