Here's an invitation from Paramount U.K. to an event taking place – virtually — next week!
Edgar Wright, who worked on the movie will be Tweeting a commentary to the DVD and Blu-Ray!
Synchronize your watches, get ready to hit "Play" at the appointed time, and then keep one eye on the screen, and other on your Twitter feed! Sounds like it might be fun!

All Tintinologists cordially invited, and tel your friends – the more the merrier!

Sorry this is going to sound really ignorant but I have no idea what you mean?
I've never tried Twitter, too busy as it is and just worried that I would probably get hooked!!
What do you mean, do you watch the movie and while watching he'll tweet things about it??
Isn't this just the same as something like a director/writers/actor commentary on DVD's?
Doesn't the Tintin movie have a commentary with the release??

That's pretty much it, as far as I understand it – remember, it's nothing to do with me, I'm just passing on the message!

I actually thought it was a pretty straight forward concept; after all, people have been holding on-line viewing/ listening parties since before I started on the internet in the Nineties.
You pick a record or film or whatever, agree a start time, then fire up the e-mail, chat-room, Facebook or whatever, and off you go...!

Again, yes, in a way it is. However, I presume that this will be interactive, because presumably if he is tweeting you, you could tweet him back. He may not be taking comments of course, but the two-way facility is there, which is missing in a static commentary.

I'd liken it to going to an event at a cinema; if a favourite actor or director came to a cinema to talk about a film I liked, or was interested in, I wouldn't not go just because I had a DVD with a commentary on it...!

I don't know, but I assume it has something; but I don't see one as negating or replacincing the other - he might not be on a commentary track for one thing, and even if he is, he still might have things to say that didn't get said before.

If Twitter isn't your thing, then that's fine: it's not compulsory to "tune in" on Tuesday! :-)

Hey Jock,

Was not having a go at you mate or attacking you in any way, I'm just massively unfamiliar with the whole concept, hence my questioning.. apologies if I may have came across to you the wrong way :)

Please keep me in the loop with how it all goes, sounds very interesting with the interactive concept..
My advice is to hit him hard with the questioning, do not relent by any means!!

I have many comments I would like to send him, but one key question would be to ask why was Nestor so different in the movie, to me (perhaps others may agree) I did not instantly recognise him in the first scene when Tintin breaks into Marlinspike..
Do you agree? Please tell him that the comic scene with Haddock breaking into the 'liquor safe' was a cracker!! Very funny!

One last: the opening credit scene was pure genius... please pass on my commendations!!

Didn't think you were – sorry, my tongue was quite firmly in my cheek!
I was just surprised (nay, shocked!) that, at my "advanced" age, I was "down" enough with the "kidz" to catch what it was about for once...!

If there's any chance for input I'll try to put your questions!

Update: The U.K. single disk "bare-bones" DVD release doesn't have any audio-extras: there are no foreign-language tracks, and there are no commentary tracks, so presumably this is the sort of audience for which the "Tweetalong" is being done.

Just a reminder that the "Tweetalong" event organized by Paramount U.K. takes place this evening at 20:00 GMT.

As outlined above, the idea is that, having followed the hash-tag #TintinDVD on Twitter, you start your DVD of The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of The Unicorn playing at eight o'clock, and screen-writer Edgar Wright will post comments on the movie as it plays.

If you intend to "attend" this novel happening, you can express your interest on Facebook at the event page, where there are further details of what's happening.

Update: Paramount U.K. have tweeted to say that unfortunately Edgar Wright will not be able to make it this evening, but that the event will still go ahead anyway - see you there!

Though I don't have a Twitter account, I did attend in spirit. :-)
I liked the gentleman's observation on Spielberg's use of artificial & natural light to reflect Haddock's drunkenness/ sobriety - that was very interesting.

Also - (Plot spoiler warning!)

One of the things I ended up wanting to comment on because it was talked about was concerning the issue of the water shortage in Bagghar - it does feature more prominently in the novelisation - the Captain explained the situation and Tintin was appalled, and wanted to do something about it.
I did read an article somewhere Spielberg said there was a plot thread that had to be discarded for the sake of time - this may have been it.

I bought the "Triple play" pack, but as far as I'm aware there is no commentary on the film at all. I would have loved it if they got at least one of the writers on board to do one.

Well, that was fun! I even opened a twitter account just so that I could join in.

I agree with Sapristi, the 'light' observations were very interesting. And thanks for the information on the Bagghar 'drought'. I also wondered why there was so little reference to this in the film, aside from what was happening in the background. An easy one to miss!

I also learned that Castafiore sings "Je Veux Vivre", which a little research reveals is from Romeo and Juliet by Gounod, the composer of Faust and the Jewel Song.

I think it was just too fundamental a thing to miss out on, time-wise or not.
They could have cut a lot of the messing about on the Karaboudjan for a start, starting with the leaden jokes about the crew activities.

As is, Tintin just appears to be crassly unobservant of the suffering around him... Ah well...!

Wasn't it?
A bit hard to watch, type, and read other people's comments simultaneously, but fun none the less!
