[Branched off from "Is Snowy irritating" thread.]

Is Captain Haddock irritating? I don't mind him too much.
In some places though, I do think, "What on Earth is he up to?"

Rajpal:
Is Captain Haddock irritating?

In my opinion, no.

There have been discussions in the past about our Archie and his many antics. (Curses, comical moments, etc.) To me, he is as integral to the stories as Tintin is. Yes, he may irritate Tintin with his go in "all guns blazing" approach and even Nestor at times gets particularly annoyed with him.
However, he has provided me with the biggest laughs - rubber band, sticking plaster, anyone?
In fact, whenever I trip over now I laugh and think "Blistering Barnacles! Why does everything happen to me?"

Irritating? Definitely not!

Cheers,

I do not think so, though I admit that he can be trying at times. Though that in itself just proves something - how realistic the characters are, that they affect you in that way. This just supports Hergé's genius.
How often do you get annoyed at a character in a comic book!

I don't think Haddock is annoying.

I would say that Bianca Castafiore and General Alcazar's wife Peggy are more so.

I cringe when Bianca starts singing and when Peggy Alcazar shouts. That's the only disappointing aspects of the cartoons.

I love Captain Haddock: I think he adds the sense of humour to the comics.

Not at all! I'd actually go as far to say that I find "Archie" more lovable than Tintin himself. He's just a big grumpy, drunken pussycat.
I would say Bianca Castafiore and General Alcazar's wife.
Actually, I find myself quite endeared to Castafiore as well. The chemistry (or lack thereof) between her and Haddock is priceless. (not to mention big, tough Alcazar cowtowing to his domineering wife. You go, girl!) Without these larger-than-life type characters, I think the books would lose a lot of their personality.

The only time i find the Captain annoying was when he got himself drunk in the Moon Rocket and Tintin had to risk himself out of the spaceship to get him back, that act liked what Tintin said, almost cost everyone's life!

The most annoying character to my opinion has got to be Jolyon Wagg.. he and his `so i said to myself` is too pest for me to take! imagine what mess he always brought to Marlinespike!

Haddock is a great character and I prefer him to Tintin in some ways. He provides the comic relief, which I think enhances the stories. He took some pressure off Snowy and that's why Snowy doesn't say too much in the later books.

In the end, my favourite thing about the whole comic series is Haddock's devotion to his friends, especially Tintin... it's a sort of... father-son relationship between the two... or brotherly friendship or something... but it's so great.

No matter what Tintin decides, no matter where he goes, Haddock always stays loyal, which makes him such a magnificent character. Even though there are attributes about each and every other character that he dislikes, he still stick by them, how awesome!?

The only reason that some people may find him annoying is that he makes the occasional bad decision (like to drink at an inappropriate time or something). But that's only because he makes mistakes and slip-ups like an actual human-being. His character is so alive that it makes my soul smile...

so... irritating? never!as Shaggy Milou said, He's just a big grumpy, drunken pussycat.

He has a soft side and would do anything for his friends... Haddock rocks!!! Definately one of my favourite characters of all time!

I would say that the only time Haddock is irritating is when I read Crab with the Golden Claws after the other books, and already had an image of the Captain in my mind. In his introduction, I believe he was created much weaker than any other story.

The worst Haddock appearance is in The Crab with the Golden Claws.

The best Haddock appearance is in Tintin in Tibet.

But, over all, Haddock is very good character, he's never boring.

Haddock made the Tintin books more interesting and lively, so I think he's the best character in the comic, beside Tintin and Snowy.

The characters who irritate me are Abdullah and Castafiore!
