It's not even in pre production yet I'm assuming, so it's too early for them to give a date.

It's been said 2007 but I think that's highly unlikely.

We are now in 2007 but there seems to be no sign of a tintin movie.

Hello everybody! Wonderful site, I love it! :)

I have of course heard of a possible Tintin film in the works, and I am curious as to how it would be done: would it feature a brand new adventure, or would one of the books be made into a film? Or would the film group several of the books together? And if so, which books?

And another question is who would be cast to play the larger than life characters. Some possibles, off the top of my head:

Tom Felton as Tintin
Brian Blessed as Captain Haddock
Eric Idle as the voice of Snowy

As for Calculus and the rest, any ideas?

Moderator Note: Hi Wamthet, thank you for the compliments, and welcome to the board. You will find that many of the subjects you have asked questions about have already been discussed in existing threads (which is why your message has been moved to here) if you use the search function in the top right hand corner. There is actually a separate discussion on casting, for example.

Nick Rodwell announced at a press conference held in Brussels today that Steven Spielberg has taken up the option to make Tintin films based on the albums, with the first of hopefully a series to be released 2009/2010. A suggested budget in the region of $100m means that this will be a serious attempt to make Tintin better known in the world beyond Europe.
He also announced the end of on-going litigation between Moulinsart and Casterman, and the formation of a common company to produce books for the international market.
These are surely very positive announcements, and good to know that the Hergé centenary is only the start of many good things!

Update: Articles here (essentially the same Associated Press story on both)-

Nope, not a rumour. Jock's absolutely right!
I just saw the news on Belgian television. Even had an interview with a man from Les Studios Hergé. He was asked if the rumour that Di Caprio was going to play Tintin was true and he answered 'absolutely not' ;)

After all these years, it's finally happening!

Only took him 25 years to finally get around to it!

Will be great to hear some more information as it is released!
