Where can I find Hergé’s 1964 “Open letter to Tintin”…?

Hi,
I'm really interested if other members can help me locate this, if possible - I've tried searching the internet to no avail!!

In the Harry Thompson bio of Hergé, right at the back, ending his conclusion, Thompson stated that Hergé wrote an open letter to Tintin in 1964.

I would love to read this letter in its entirety, as the book only provides a shortened version of it.

Can anyone help me please?

Hi Rodney

It took a while to to find using Google, but typing in likely-sounding words in the original French eventually did the trick, and led me to this website which has the letter.

The letter's towards the end of this web-page, a couple of paragraphs below the second illustration, the one of the group of characters.

It's in the original French, but here's an auto-google-translation of the page (with all the clunkiness that carries with it!).

There may well be members here who can provide us with a smoother English translation of the letter!

Clunky or non clunky, I'm just glad to have something tangible!!

It's the first time I've read that, thank you for the link Balthazar.
I find it oddly beautiful, despite the clunky translation - Hergé's love for Tintin really shows.
