A black-haired Tintin key-holder with the flag of FLANCE (double sic!) was spotted recently in Japan
see http://npu4.free.fr/dotclear/index.php?2006/03/08/87-tintin-mauvais-fr ancophone

Thanks for removing this link in case it is unauthorized material!

That is very interesting. I wonder... does his hair color have anything to do with the fact that he is in Japan?

Might well be, and Flance is likely better known than Bergium over there!

Same key-holder still better seen on http://forumjapon.free.fr/ReportFlo/franponais/?action=3

Oh, I just love that!! It's a prime example of "Engrish"!
Since the Japanese have no distinct sound for L or R, (the closest they have is a sort of hybrid of the two), you see this kind of mix-up all the time on merchandise and such. (The funniest one I ever saw was an image of CD on sale featuring the music of Eric "Crapton"...)

I'd say so. My Japanese lecturer saw one of my Tintin albums, and the first thing she said was "Ah, Tintin! From France, right?" And BTW, Belgium is known as "Berujii" to the Japanese. Well, those who've heard of it anyway :)
