Got an ad mail from Amazon.fr, today notifying me about the Tintin carnet de voyage: Tintin et la mer DVD that's being released in France on 2 May.

Anyone knows if it's yet-another repackage of the Ellipse-Nelvana Tintin TV episodes?

Also, a limited 2-pack edition of Tintin et Moi and Moi Tintin (in a tin) is being released on the same date. Anyone know have more info on what Moi, Tintin is?

Maybe it has something to do with the Tintin at Sea Exhibition? ...

I don't know why they'd release a DVD with the Adventures of Tintin that occur at sea when there's already the box sets ...

Well it's not like the first time Ellipse episodes get repackaged.

Took me a while googling around, but I've found some spec of what's included in the box.

Turns out that my speculation was right: the 3-disc set comes with The Secret of the Unicorn, Red Rackham's Treasure, The Shooting Star and The Red Sea Sharks. Plus a "Thalassa documentary special", Tintin and the sea, as well as a 56-page collector's booklet.

One site states the DVD set comes with French and English DD2.0 audio. Which either means those episodes are not remastered (since the remastered box comes with DD5.1 audio) or the spec are wrong, meaning remastered episodes will be used, but doesn't come with English audio and/or subs.

Hmmmm… I must admit the sea episodes are never my favourites (though I like The Shooting Star), so it comes down to is it worthy of spending 25 euro for a French doco possibly without subs?

But I'm definitely double-dipping Tintin et Moi just to get Moi, Tintin, even though it most likely won't have subs either.

For those who are interested in purchasing the 2 new French DVD releases: only the feature-length documentary of Tintin et Moi comes with English subtitles. The interview with Michel Serres on the same disc, which is basically 40 minutes of talking heads, has no subs.

Moi, Tintin also isn't subtitled, nor is the bonus 15-minute doumentary Le Secret de la Ligne Claire.

Both discs come with bonus features of an animated timeline of The Adventures of Tintin, Biography of Hergé (still frames) and Diaporama d'Autocaricatures (cameoes of Hergé in various paintings. Still frames).

The Tintin et Moi DVD also comes with a 16-page booklet in French, Hergé et ses autocaricatures, further exploring the subject of Hergé's cameos.

The Moi, Tintin DVD comes with a 4-page booklet about the documentary in French, Belgium and English (1 page per language plus a full page of photo of Chang meeting Hergé), plus 6 postcard-size replicas of artworks and photos.

Tintin et la Mer
seems to be the first of the Tintin Globe-Trotter Collection. As speculated, it features the non-remastered Ellipse-Nelvana TV episodes of Unicorn, Rackham, Shooting Star and Red Sea Sharks.

In fact Disc 1 is identical to the original French DVD release of Unicorn/ Rackham.

Disc 2 is re-authored, using the non-remastered episodes, with only French subs and no opening theme.

Disc 3 contains the Thalassa special Tintin et la mer, in French with no subs, and 5 interactive dossiers.

The 3-disc boxset comes with a 60 page booklet in French that doesn't fit into the box, hence shrink-wrapped outside the package.

In one word: rip-off.
