Excuse me, but defending oneself from attack (one which was neither logical nor reasonable) isn't the same thing as shouting someone down, you know. What's more, I know I didn't read anything into jock123's posts that isn't there; there's nothing wrong with my reading comprehension. I'd be more than happy to get back to the subject at hand, but I certainly wasn't the one who strayed from it. I'm not the one who started talking about Winnie the Pooh.

Actually, I think I've had my full say on this topic, and I'm sure many would agree. I have nothing more to add, especially in light of the veiled hostility that's being directed at me. I'm done defending myself against false accusations. As I've indicated before, I value honesty in a discussion, and there's a lack of it here. There's a great big elephant in the room, and its name is homophobia.

I can sense the outrage some people have at the very idea of homosexual Tintin characters. I'd have to be made out of wood not to. They're angry because they perceive me as besmirching a comic strip legend; they find the concept of homosexuality inherently pornographic and disgusting. So it's all about what I'm saying, not the way I'm saying it, and not who I say it to. They want me to shut up, but they're not being honest with me or with themselves about the reason.

Let me leave you with this thought: If you want to have a really honest, really deep interchange about this topic, you'll need to confront the homophobia openly. Not to condemn it . . . that would serve no purpose . . . but to acknowledge it and realize how it can shape one's opinion. The subsequent conversation will be an uncomfortable one, but it may prove most enlightening. Adieu.

Even when peering into her crystal ball, Yamilah can't see anything like that in the posts above.

YES Tintin is gay!!

Only kidding folks!

When i first read Tintin his sexuality was never a part of my thought process but then I was only seven at the time. From that day to this his sexuality has never been an issue for me and I really don't think it is an issue. If there was a woman (or indeed a man) in his life, his life would be far too complicated to go off at a whim and solve crimes and have adventures.

In The Castafiore Emerald, page 50, frame 8, Tintin is shown holding a daisy. *confused* Does that count towards his sexuality, or just his simple love of nature?

Hergé was a Nazi sympathiser

Herge was NOT a Nazi sympathiser.

He just happened to work for a Belgian newspaper owned and run by the Nazis during the occupation. He was rounded up as a collaborator but cleared of the charges.

He could have held to his principles and refused to work for the Nazi paper - but a lot of people who stuck to their principles didn't survive the war.

Certain characters and regimes in his books made pretty damning statements against facism (King Ottaker's sceptre) and that's how he really thought about it.

Just like the whole "Tintin is a nazi" thing is a popular false rumour, SO is the idea of Herge being a Nazi.

Moderator Note: Welcome to the board, roland! If you read the post which Garen made again, I think you will find that he isn’t saying that Hergé was a Nazi sympathiser: he is using that as an example of an occasion where people make their own interpretations of Hergé and Tintin. As this thread is on another matter it is taking it off course to talk about it here; you will find several threads in which the rumour is discussed if you use the forum search function.

I would never accept the fact that Tintin is a gay, no matter what. I believe Tintin has the looks and dough for a perfect husband but there's three things he's lagging; love(romance), charm and charisma.

Well, I could imagine being a hottrob(was that written correct), has muscles and abs and i'm not talkin' about sex here. We could let him be what he wants and desires.

No one believes asexuality is possible anymore. They assume someone must have some sexual orientation. They automatically assume if someone does not date females they are gay, never asexual. It does exist and Tintin is asexual.

Noone believes asexuality is possible anymore.

Don't know what modern psychology thinks, but whatever the theory I'm sure it only applies to real human beings.

Tintin is a fictional character. He's not explicitly stated to be a-, hetero-, homo-, bi-, trans- or any other thing people are labeled*.
This leaves the door open for everyone to project their own feelings into him.

And that leaves this discussion going nowhere, would it be about time to let it rest?

*Yes, I chose the word on purpose.

Yes it is, I agree with my fellow countryman 100 %. It is not very intellectual and chic to homosexulalize everything. It is lack of discrimination in some case. This is one of those cases. I'm angry now ... ok it went over.

It's wierd because I bet Hergé never thought about this as much as you guys do.
