my latest english prose lesson was BON VOYAGE , lesson about Kalpana Chawla. it talked about her in high terms as how she dreamt of reaching the stars, how she pursued her aeronautical engineering etc. etc. all this time i was being reminded of the moon series of how tintin went to moon & returned safely just like that without even doing any engineering or anything like that.
this was the first time that i felt jealous of tintin for the above mentioned reason. Anybody has reason for feeling jealous? anybody envious for anything?

Tintin's famous for it and I red the moon books. I also quouted hearing this from my brother, 'Tintin is my passion. He's sometimes my idol. He is brave, smart and also knows how to use some fighting tactics.' This may exlains the 'special treatment' of Tintin going to the moon. Another obvious reason is him being invited by Calculus.

Well, my brother and I are both a bit jealous about that. But, my brother has kept on looking for the Black Island book for that Tintin using savate scene and the scene of Tintin struggling or should better said, wrestling with Muller for life-and-death. That's his favourite book. I mind need to add that my brother also loves the punch scenes from Tintin in the TV series, which I always loved but never got aired here in Singapore. Pity Me!? -sad-

Tintin doesn't use savate in the Black Island. Ranko's master uses judo, and then Tintin gives a "straight left to the jaw" -- with his right foot.

Calculus is the one who uses savate -- in Flight 714.

Tintin doesn't use savate in the Black Island.

This has come up in a previous thread, and I thought the same as you, Mark. But it turns out that in the original French text, Tintin acompanies his kick to Puschov's jaw with the line, "And that's savate," in response to Puschov's rather smug line, "That's a little jujitsu, my friend."

It seems likely to assume that the English translators thought that British readers wouldn't know what the French martial art of savate was, so changed the line to "and that's a straight left to the jaw." (Actually, isn't it, "and that's a straight sock to the jaw"? I can't quite remember.)

If I'm remembering the previous discussion correctly, Tintin's savate reference remains intact in both the English and French soundtracks to the animated version of The Black Island.

Well, to correct Balthazar, it's:
'And that's a straight left to the jaw'

Well, my brother is planing how to put Tintin in a train jump scene. He planned some other stunts for him. Boy! He said to me, 'Some Tintin stories may need a little spice and sugar...' He meant that Tintin adventures could have a more appealing adventurous scenes and fight scenes to become an action-film. I think Tintin is one helluva person.
P.S: Sorry if I used a small vulgar word there.

The only character I have been jealous of is Archie owning Marlinspike Hall.

I've been thinking who actually owns Marlinspike Hall. Calculus gave all the money and he definitely is one of the owners of Marlinspike, but what about Captain? Calculus said to Captain: "Come along, we're going to buy your mansion." So Captain must be the other owner of Marlinspike, there is no good reason to deny that. Maybe after finding Rackham's treasure Captain paid his share of Marlinspike to Calulus. And Tintin, did he spend his share of treasure to Marlinspike or something else. My quess is Tintin doesn't own a bit of Marlinspike, he must have done something else with his money, but that's an other question.

Ranko & Balthazar & other Br. Islanders:

Been a bit rainy summer there, I've seen (BBC) you rowing a boat on your fields. And Wave, have nice last free weeks of your life ;)
