Could any one please help me with the value of a Casterman Hardcover edition of L'Ile Noire from 1947 in grade Very Good/Fine. What is a fair price in Euro?

Cover have signs of wear and tear especially spine, pages in Very Fine condition almost no yellowing at all.

All help appreciated.

My BDM catalogue from 2005-2006 lists the price at 400 euros.

“1947 DB (dos bleu) - 4e plat B1 - papier mince (tirage 18 000ex) (sept 1947)”

Hope that helps.

Does anyone know what 4e plat B1 - papier mince means. According to information I got this is suppose to be the second edition/printing of The Black Island in color. Could that be correct?

Thanks in advance for answers.

Does anyone know what 4e plat B1

4e or 4ème plat (literally 4th plate, meaning 'verso' in English) refers to the back cover. The French language books did not print the publishing date so they are usually identified by means of the different listing of the books on the back covers. The books available at the time of printing enable you to date the book. BDM uses it's own coding system to identify the changing back covers. You would need a copy of BDM to know exactly what the B1 plat looked like.

edit
I took a look in BDM at the B1 4ème plat and it shows it was the first back cover without the little picture of Tintin saying "et ces albums là, les connaissez-vous?". It just lists all of the books available under the heading "Collection Tintin", Congo through to Rackham (although not in chronological order).

"Papier mince" means thin paper (you could look in any French dictionary to find that out!). Looking in BDM I see that this is noted so as not to confuse it with the previous edition of L'Ile Noire from 1946, which also has a B1 verso, except that this edition has "Papier épais" or thick paper. The 1946 version is valued at 650 euros.

Well labrador road 26, I think I've given you more information than you can wave a stick at. Best of luck!

Hearty thanks Harrock for your fabulous assistance.

I just won the book in question at the swedish version of Ebay (actually owned by Ebay nowdays).
http://www.tradera.com/auction/auction.aspx?aid=45669264

The winning price was 1000 swedish crowns which is about 100 Euro. Not that I ever intend so sell it of course, but it still was a real bargain it seems.

Once again thank you very much.

Hearty thanks Harrock

You're welcome labrador road 26. Glad to be of help!

Incidentally - after browsing through the BDM again - I see from the back cover of the book in your link that it was in fact a 1954 edition (4ème plat B9, in case you're interested!).

It's valued at 200 euros, according to the BDM price guide, so it seems you have indeed secured a bargain!

Finnish Edition of Secret of the Unicorn (1962)

The first hardcovers published in early sixties (Sceptre, Shooting Star, Unicorn, Rackham) are relatively rare, but not impossible to find. Depends on the quality of course, and Finnish being a small language the market is somehow limited. Usually they go for something between 50 and 100 euros, about 70€ being the usual sum. That said the albums on sale usually have at least some amount of wear and tear, can't remember seeing anything near mint condition on sale anywhere.
