Can you identify a single - or even main - reason that you read Tintin?
Is it the wit, adventure, script, etc.?

For me it has always been the quality of the illustrations.

I can remember being amazed, even as a kid some 20+ years ago, at the detail and accuracy of Hergé's work. I still have very fond memories of reading The Crab with the Golden Claws for the first time and appreciating the detail on some of the enlarged frames in the book.

Likewise the attention to detail in some of the villages and pastoral scenes in Eastern Europe.

For me, the script and characterisation has always trailed behind the visual brilliance of the illustrations.

I particularly like how some of the Making of Tintin editions celebrate Hergé's attention to visual detail whilst acknowledging the occasional flaw (such as the oft-quoted example of bananas growing upside down).

The main reason - great stories and art that isn't dumbed down for young audiences and can be enjoyed by all.

I got hooked when I was a kid. I was at my local libary and bored out of my mind, so I chose a Tintin book randomly (Tintin books are very popular and well-known where I live so my attention was drawn to them more easily)

I was immediately smitten with Tintin. (blush, Yes, THAT was the main reason) For a little girl, such a clever and fearless hero is very impressive! lol!

But of course, as time passed, I got really hooked on the stories, the adventures and I started to appreciate the other characters as well (like good old Archie!) Now, it's a mix of all those reasons! :P

The main reasons why I read Tintin books:

1) Stories are just fantastic.

2) Illustrations are also good.

3) There is great humour and wit in it.

4) Tintin is Sherlock Holmes-like and I love Sherlock Holmes.

Above all Tintin is just Tintin. Tintin is unbeatable.

It's hard to pin down a reason. Like everything, I love the timelessness of it and also I've read it for a long time and it's something I can read over and over again.

As one gets older, you also identify with Haddock's gruff nature and dry wit a lot more than you would as a kid.

I like Tintin because of the good stories and mysteries, the great and carefully done illustrations, and the fact that it is not as violent as other comics like it. If you ever read something like Dick Tracy, for example, you'll see things like villains getting shot through the head.

Exactly I find new things each time I read one.

It has to be Tintin's undying spirit to help his friends when they are in trouble. He risks his own neck to dig em out. Red sea sharks is my favorite book, followed closely by flight 714.=)

Why do I love reading and watching Tintin?

1. I am fond of detective-adventure stories that move me and stir my imagination. I feel like I'm living with the characters.
2. I've learned to become alert, cautious and vigilant.
3. The clear line technique of Herge, plus the full vibrant colors in every frame.
4. I've discovered how the people lived during those years when I was not born.
5. It has trained me to survive in a scout's spirit (always ready!)
6. Pleasurably entertaining to read, relieves me from the pressures and stresses of teaching.
7. With their dialogues as samples, I've studied and applied conversational English in my field.
8. Following through the investigative strategies of the characters in liquidating cancers of society.
9. The enthralling orchestral backgrounds of the animated series.
10. The cutest face (of Tintin) and the sotto voice (of Colin O' Meara) I've seen and heard in the animated world, the humor of Captain Haddock, and the slapstick comedy.
