Golden Press & Goldencraft Editions: How much are they worth?

Destination Moon sells for around $3,000 - but how much is it really worth?
A copy of The Crab with the Golden Claws sold for around $600.

How rare are they? How hard are they to find or get? Like what are the chances in finding a rare Tintin book in an old library?

And could someone please tell me a little about the Golden Press?

I've just ordered Destination Moon (Golden Press so without the cloth covers). Is it a nice find? It cost me about $100.

Thanks guys!

Please read the article which we have on site https://www.tintinologist.org/articles/goldenpress.html
It will tell you about the history of the Golden Press editions.

As to how much they are really worth; since no definitive price guide exists it depends how much someone wants to pay for them, so there is no easy answer to that.

I think the reason those recent Goldencraft and Golden Press Tintins sold on ebay for such a high figure is that they were in practically mint condition, which is near impossible to find. According to the seller, they were uncirculated and had come from the Golden Books archive. You should be able to find the books for much less, but with faults, such as damaged spines, etc.

Colleagues, I recently viewed the movie "Reader" and in a certain scene the Tintin book was shown. This jogged my memory that I had a similar book purchased some time near 1965. I searched for the book and then the web to discover this site and now I am curious of the book's value. The book is titled "The Secret of the unicorn". Its a Golden Press and inside it shows Artwork copyright 1947 by Editions Casterman, Paris and Tournai. Text copy right 1959 by Golden press, inc. Printed in USA by Western Printing and Lithographing company. The back side is missing so its not in great condition.

Can someone assist in the value of the book?

Many thanks!

Harrock is the better judge of such things, but I think it is fair to say that if your book doesn’t have its back cover, it will be virtually worthless; whole copies in more complete condition but worn can be had for tens of pounds.

It was only the absolute pristine condition of the copies mentioned above (and those were in the cloth-bound library cover, where this is virtually unknown, as they generally became lending editions and suffered as a result) that attracted the high price.

Thank you for the response. I mistakenly said the back cover, I meant the spine of the book is off. I recall it looking like tape and didn't seem very strong. The book is whole and no marks in it but its far from pristine.

I need to know the names of all Goldencraft books of Tintin (not Golden Press) - I think there are 6 of them but I may be wrong.
Also, is there some good soul who would sell these books if he/she have them and willing to sell or even better if there are any online place which sells them?
I already tried eBay and someone from the U.K. is trying to sell 4 of them for $3350 each.

Moderator Note: Your post has been moved to an existing thread, where the Goldencraft books are discussed. If you follow the link in Harrock's post to the article he wrote on the subject (a pretty definitive work), you will find the names of the six volumes there.
As to cost/ value, well that's down to what people will pay, and the books seem to change hands infrequently and at high cost. You'll be lucky to find a collector wanting to sell their copies, and they are only available second-hand, so there's no specific place to recommend.
