Today, I had awaited the ninth series of Tintin in Indonesian Language that republish by Gramedia of which previously published by INDIRA. Long awaited this ninth one because it was the first time our fellow "Tintin" meet with his old friends "Haddock".

What I am waiting for what is the translation from "Blustering Barnacles" in this Gramedia era. On the previous publisher, Indira, the term is exactly explaining the "Blustering Barnacles" in Indonesia and I am still remember the word in Indonesia of "Sejuta Topan Badai". It will be a big challenge for Gramedia since they can not use the same idioms/terms that already used by Indira. The challenge will be for the Tintin fans from my era since we already know Tintin on Indira version and make us compare Gramedia version into Indira ones.

In global, I think the new translation is quite funny and entertaining especially for those the new reader of Tintin in Indonesia. But for me, I am still miss the old terms of "Sejuta Topan Badai!"

Just curious: Out of Sejuta Topan Badai, which word means "barnacles"?

Barnacles in Indonesian mean remis, a kind of sea shell. On the word "Sejuta Topan Badai" none of the word is the true translation of barnacles. This word is usually a swear word used by the sailor in Indonesian. The idea of using that Indonesian idiom is to reflect the Haddock swear but adapted into Indonesian.

Oh. So what is the literal translation of the curse (if it's not too dirty)?

Topan Badai is a true disaster for a sailor which is means a high wave/tide and make it not easy for the captain to control his ship. So once somebody said about that, it means you will be curse for you and your son, grand son etc up to 7 level, which is means is too bad.. Ha.. Ha.. Ha...

Sometime it's not that easy to explain to somebody else who their mother tounge not Indonesian, but in a simple, it's too too too bad.....

I just want to revisit the thread since I accidentantly associate the Blistering Barnacles into "Sejuta Topan Badai" in Indonesian.

Actually the Blistering Barnacles is translated into "Kepiting Busuk" during the INDIRA era which is meant dirty or spoil crab.

Now in the Gramedia era it's translated into "Kodok Buduk" means dirty/spoil frog.
