Tintin Quiz
I'm trying to find an image of "Strip 12 from the Calculus Affair," in the Black and White original.

I don't think there ever was a back and white original version of the Calculus Affair, was there? Surely all the Tintin adventures from this period (indeed from Prisoners of the Sun onwards) were in full colour right from their original publication.

My cronky old computer won't open the news story you've given the link to, Tintin Quiz, but from what you say, I suspect journalists may be confusing the black-and-white inked artwork from the colour version for a non-existent black-and-white version of the adventure. (The colouring of Tintin books was always done on a separate plate known as a blue-board, so the uncloured b/w artwork like this plate exists for all Tintin book pages.)

I think you're right. In fact, the paragraph could be interpreted in both ways:

"An original black and white strip, signed by Tintin’s Belgian creator Hergé and donated by his widow Fanny Rodwell, comes from the 1956 story, The Calculus Affair, the 18th of the Tintin adventures."

Yes I am almost sure there never was one.

Moderator Note: Just to clarify, the piece being talked about here is the black and white, pen and ink, original line art for the 12th page of Calculus Affair, which Fanny Rodwell donated to the Pompidou’s collection - it was used to create the colour edition we all know today. It isn’t part of an unknown B&W version.
