Tintin in the Congo: Included in Gift Set?

Sorry if this has already been answered elsewhere, but I've done quite a bit of reading about the Tintin in the Congo controversy and the Adventures of Tintin HC Gift sets and I'm still not sure what's what.

I recently bought the deluxe Adventures of Tintin HC box set, which I thought was like this one Gift Box Set. It started with Volume 1 (Soviets/Congo) and ended with Volume 8 (Alph-Art). However, the one I actually have starts with volume 1 (America etc.) and ends with Volume 8 (Tintin & Co.).

So now I'm interested in buying the "real" volume 1 & 8 to complete the set and I'm planning on buying this one Volume 1 from Amazon.CA but I have a few questions...

a) Which version of Tintin in the Congo is included in this edition? Is it the original B&W version or the later colour version?

b) Is this edition really available? I live in Canada and Amazon.CA shows it as being "In Stock" however it doesn't seem to be available from Amazon.COM. The Congo controversy makes me wonder if I'm seeing shadows and phantoms on Amazon or not - and I've had experience in the past where Amazon says things are available and you wait a LONG time before they figure out they're actually not...

c) Is there really two versions of the Tintin Box set or is the picture on Amazon.COM just wrong? I thought that the edition with Congo and Soviets was scrapped...

Thanks for clearing this up for me. Kinda makes me wish I'd just bought the set in French like I'd originally planned... :)

a) The cover that you have included indicates that it is the later colour version.

b) Instead of ordering from Amazon itself, maybe you ought to contact one of the third-party vendors and get an email confirmation from them that this is the volume you are looking for.

c) The edition with Congo and Soviets may have been scrapped as a result of the controversy surrounding Congo, but there is always bound to be unsold or second-hand copies lying around. Again, contact a third-party vendor in order to be sure that he will send the copy you request.

If you still doubt Amazon's description capabilities then a copy of the book is available on a "Buy It Now" basis on eBay at

Hi

The version you are after exists and includes Soviets in black and white & Congo in colour. It is freely available (at least in Australia !). Cheers

Thanks all.

I realized after I posted that the image of the Box set on Amazon was of the french edition... so I feel slightly better that I didn't somehow order the "semi-complete" one by accident. (but I don't feel better that we only get the semi-complete one in English).

I ordered the Soviets/Congo book from Amazon.ca and so far no problems - so I'm glad to know it's the colour version of the Congo.

I've posted some images of my box set at Amazon.ca in case you're interested...
