For those among us who may have savings in the bank - please be aware that a collection of Hergé's letters to his first wife Germaine will be on sale during the first session of an auction in Paris on Friday 21 November, beginning at 6 pm (lot 31).

Estimate: 15,000 to 20,000 Euros. I expect that it will sell for more, however.
See the catalogue

You will notice that there is also an opportunity to purchase a two-sided Hergé pencil rough for Vol 714 (lot 614) among other items...

Certainly a good way to start a collection...

For more information - in French - see this article by Daniel Couvreur in Le Soir

Thanks for the links luinivierge2010.

For me, the most telling part is:
Hergé Studios, which Hergé's widow Fanny Rodwell heads up, will not be bidding for the lots ...
It considers that the correspondence has, "great interest for historians", but not for the Hergé Museum currently under construction at Louvain-la-Neuve in central Belgium.

So, for historians, but not for the Hergé Museum, eh? Hmmmm...

The letters have sold for 90.000 euros before commission - around 110.000 euros in total.

Wowers! I wish I had that kind of money (although I would have spent it on an original Tintin drawing or something similar).

The link luinivierge2010 gave also mentions several signed drawings which are being sold today: An illustration from the cover from “Le Petit Vingtième” (1935) for Le Lotus Bleu estimated at 35,000/40,000 euros, original drawings of three strips from Coke En Stock (1958) 40,000/50,000 euros and pencils of pages 45 and 46 from Vol 714 Pour Sydney 80,000/85,000 euros.

So Tintinrulz, if you happen to find an extreme amount of cash today, there's still time to pick up some original drawings!

It would be very nice but no, I'd have to have wads of money to afford those. But thanks for the information.

The pencils from Vol 714 were quite amazing, it is good to see them in the catalogue pdf. If two pages from a Tintin book can sell for 142,500 euros, then one whole adventure might be worth something like 4 or 5 million. A phenomenal sum of money!
