Does the UK Tintin store have them, and if so how much are they?

I have volumes 4 and 5, and they're immense books. I'm sure volume 6 is equally as good, but I'd need to justify spending €105 (which currently equals £93).

I found a few shops in Brussels that sold them for around 85 euros. That converted to about 60 pounds last time I was there, but it'd be about 75 quid now, thanks to the poor exchange rate.

The second half of the book alone justifies its purchase (much previously unpublished material concerning The Calculus Affair and Red Sea Sharks).

I've been meaning to get Michael Farr's English version of Volume One of the Chronologie for a while (the only one in English so far, I believe).

Maybe this is covered in another thread, but can anyone tell me whether the English version is good, or a pale abridged shadow of the French original, lacking the in-depth detail? I think I read somewhere that the English version is considerably shorter - more of a reformatting and rewriting for what's seen as a more "general" readership than simply a translation. It's certainly considerably cheaper than any of these original French volumes.

Is Farr's English version lacking fascinating detail and artwork from the French original, or has he simply cut down a lot of lengthy French academic phrasing to more managable proportions and left the good stuff intact?

And, if the French originals are the better versions of this series (and if I ever feel rich enough to buy them!), are they worth having if your ability to read French is limited and slow. Ie: are they mostly pictures of roughs, sketches, original artwork, etc, or is the text the interesting bit?

Sorry, moderators, for going off-topic from the specific subject of the newly released Volume 6. If there's a more general thread about this Chronologie series (which I couldn't find in a forum search), feel free to move this post to there if it fits better.

A simple answer: the French volumes are worth getting even if you cannot read a single word of French.

Of course, Michael Farr's volume is wonderful too. Note that it abridges volumes 1 and 2 and part of volume 3 - that is, over 1000 pp. reduced to around 200 pp.

Thanks, Luinivierge. I'll get the Michael Farr one for now and start saving for the full French ones!

I don't read French and I found the Michael Farr version still to be an amazing read (don't forget not much of Herge's early/background works have been translated into English).
I'm just wondering when volumes 2 and 3 of 'The Art of Herge' are to be released. Anyone know?

What I am interested in is the stories as they were originally published in newspapers and magazines before they appeared in book form. I know for instance that when "Prisoners of the Sun" was published in the magazine it was in landscape rather than portrait format and thus many scenes were deleted or altered before it could fit into the 62-page limit required by the book publishers.

Does the "Chronologie d'une oeuvre" series include the versions published in the newspapers and magazines, and I do not just mean a few scenes picked at random, I mean the entire story.

That particular comic of Prisoners of the Sun is avaliable in its original format with two pages that are not in the final book.
