Tintin in Quebec: Can anyone help me identify this picture?

First let me say that I know very little about Tintin.

Anyway, while at a thrift store not too long ago, I was rummaging through some paintings and art prints and came across a picture of the Rue des Remparts in Quebec. And, walking along the road, is Tintin and Snowy. Even though I don't know much about Tintiin, I am an animation/cartoon fan and decided to pick it up.

Unfortunately, I've been unable to find any information online about this piece, and was hoping someone might be able to help me out.

The picture is quite large - 8 1/2 by 11 inches or so - and appears to be a print. It also appears to be hand-coloured with watercolour paints. There are three things written across the bottom of the page - Mare (I think, in the bottom left corner), Rue des Remparts (in the bottom middle) and Quebec (in the bottom right corner).

I'm assuming Mare is the artist.

Can anyone help me out? I'm mainly interested in finding out what this picture was produced for, if anything.

I will try to include two links to the picture (the first being the entire image, and the second being focused on Tin Tin and Snowy).

Moderator Note: Hi, and welcome to the forums!
A couple of things must be said quickly: first, the links you posted didn't work, for some reason.
Secondly, but as it happens more importantly, there is a forum policy of not linking to fan art or similar unofficial works; this keeps everything hunky-dory copyright-wise. So the links would have to be removed anyway.

Hopefully someone might still be able to help you with information about the artist or the work.

It sounds similar to a drawing by Yves Rodier, a French Canadian illustrator who's quite well known for his Tintin pastiches. As the Team stated, I can't link to the picture, but Rodier's shows Tintin and Snowy on a boardwalk at night lit by streetlamps, and Tintin is wearing a trenchcoat and yellow scarf. The Rue des Remparts buildings take up the majority of the image behind him. Rodier's drawing is digitally coloured, though, but I think he has done some colouring work by hand before.

If it turns out that it's the same drawing, I don't think that one was made with any particular purpose in mind apart from for his own amusement. Hope that's of some use!

Thanks for the reply! I'll take a look at Rodier's work - it definitely sounds like a good place to start.

When I first bought this picture, I thought it would be easy to find online - in fact, I thought I'd find it selling for $20 or so on some shop's webpage. Or, at least, listed on eBay. So far, no such luck.

The picture itself, since I can't link to it and the link itself didn't work anyway, focuses heavily on the Rue des Remparts, and is quite nicely detailed. In fact, it would be quite easy for someone to overlook Tintin completely, if one weren't looking.

Tintin, in the picture, is quite small (though still obviously Tintin) and is walking up the Rue, away from the viewer. He's walking next to a police officer. The police officer is looking ahead, and Tintin is facing the officer, engaged in conversation as they walk.

Anyway, thanks for your suggestion. I'll definitely look up Yves Rodier and see what he's done.

Take care!

I saw the scan of the print before it was removed and I don't think it's the one by Rodier to which Richard refers. I don't think it's by Rodier either, at least it isn't in his usual style. The print was quite nice, sort of like one of those old fashioned postcards which have been coloured up. It might even have been drawn over a photograph, or postcard originally? The canons, trees and castle look quite realistic.

Here's a copyright free image I found which shows the setting, almost from the exact same angle

On the print Tintin is walking up the road on the right with Haddock (not a police officer incidentally!)

Thanks for your help. I took a look at Rodier's work and I think you're right - it's not really his style. I'll keep poking around, but for now the picture will likely remain a mystery to me.

Take care!
