The USA and Canada: "No Tintin" Zones?

I have just returned from a trip to the north-east side of America and Canada.
I went in to numerous book shops - no Tintin anywhere.
I asked a few of the book shop clerks and majority of them haven't heard of him.
Tintin may have been to America, but they haven't heard of him.

I think you just didn't find the right places. Tintin is not as big a deal here as in Europe, but he is still loved. People often forget how spread out the US is and that Tintin is still a "new" thing for many Americans. So, you do have to hunt around, but you will find him eventually.
In terms of books, Tintin can be found at most libraries and large chain book stores.
Merchandise is a bigger problem as Moulinsart just doesn't release enough product to the US market, and when they do, the duties and exchange rate makes the items fairly expensive for the "entry-level" fan...

Tintin is pretty popular, here in Western Canada.

It's not huge or any thing, but most people I know have read a Tintin book at one time or another. Most people with kids have a few old albums kicking around the house.
And every bookstore I have ever been to carries a large selection of Tintin (and Asterix, by the way).

I was actually surprised to hear Tintin wasn't very popular in the States.

Here in the United States there are occasional (rather expensive) shops which sell Tintin books and merchandise, and every library has at least Red Rackham's Treasure. If you go into a Barnes and Noble store, they always have them. So, Tintin isn't completely absent.

The United States is actually where my copies of the Tintin comics came from. I couldn't find any copies in Australia at all, so I had to buy them off there.

Let's just hope the new Tintin film gets a good American audience, shall we?

Sorry, I didn't notice this thread was more than half a year old!

^Now that it's revived I'd just like to ask if anyone knows of a place that sells any Tintin merchandise that's near Minnesota? The books are easy enough to find, or just order, but I've never, ever seen even a little Tintin figure.

When you visited Canada, did you go to any french-speaking provinces, like Quebec? Tintin is very popular amoung french Canadiens. You can find Tintin in any book store there. I'm surprised you didn't find anything.

Here in California, I haven't found a lot of Tintin merchandise. The Barnes and Noble bookstores have the albums and the three-in-one books. I haven't seen any t-shirts or plush Snowy dogs. I ordered a t-shirt online, though.

I checked in several used book stores, but they didn't have any of the books. The owner of one hadn't even heard of Tintin.

I don't think Missouri knows who TinTin is. I am the only one in my town who knows who he is. It's really sad. But I asked the librarian to order TinTin books. But for now I let my friends borrow the books.

Hmm,

I would not consider Canada a "No Tintin Zone". The TV show was jointly produced by French studio Ellipse, with the Canadian studio Nelvana of Toronto. I watched the series on the Canadian TV network Global, and later reruns on CBC. In America the books are available. My library system has all books except for "Congo" which I believe is banned in New York state. Other than that, it's not a "No Tintin Zone", he's just unknown by many.
