Well I picked up my copy yesterday, and overall I am very impressed with it.

I like the chronological structure, where the progression of Hergé's graphic output is described separately but on the same page. There are some really interesting reproductions especially original illustrations for covers for Le Petit Vingtieme.

It's also interesting to learn more about the process of turning the black and white albums into colour.

The only criticisms I would have are that the captions for the strips and frames illustrated in the book do not differentiate between original pen drawings and printed copy.
Also it would have been good to learn more about the actual process Hergé applied to get from pencil drawing to pen inking to print readiness, and also the colouring process. There is a hint at an assistant tracing at a certain point in time, but no description of what Hergé did before that, and what the tracing process involved. This could have been illustrated effectively as well.

There are also very few original pencil drawings reproduced either.

Still it is a fine book and I don't regret buying it.

I look forward to receiving Volume/ Tome 6 of Hergé - Chronologie d'une Œuvre, maybe it will have more depth in these areas.

regards,

mat

Let us know what you think number1fan, I'd be interested to know.

I've nearly finished reading my copy - trying to make it last!

Should be getting it through today.
Yeah, I'll try and make it last as well, seeing as they only come out every two years.
The time next one comes out the film will be out!
Update: It came about ten minutes ago - just had a quick flick through, and it looks pretty amazing - some great art work in there.
I'll have a proper read of it later on!
