misteromar:
It's now 2011 and there still doesn't seem to be an English paperback of Tintin in the Congo available.

And it's likely to remain like that, misteromar: due to the controvesial nature of the album, the book is seen by Egmont as a specialist item - hence the belly-band and content warning, as well as shrink-wrapping. Keeping it in hard-back only is seen as emphasising that difference.

Anyway, welcome to the forums!

Herge's work I would have thought was all about the message, the artwork and the content, not about the box....

I can all so back this up as when I worked in the Tintin shop I got in contact with Egmont. It will only ever be out in Hardback. This book is more for the fans who understand its historical context a collectors edition so I wouldn't expect it in your local libraries.

I just got paperback copies Alph-Art and Land of the Soviets from the US Amazon, and they are published by "Little Brown" - so maybe if Egmont won’t do it, they will one day.

Because I don't think Egmont does these in paperback either.

It’s probably most unlikely, misteromar, as whilst Egmont don’t have a paper-back Congo, Little Brown don’t publish Congo at all, even in hard-back. They just see it as too controversial.

Yeah I think you are right, my optimism got the best of me. After looking at the back cover they only publish the 23 Tintin books.

I purchased my from the official Tintin online boutique.
Strangely this hardback edition is published or printed by Casterman - not Egmont like the rest.

Moderator Note:
As ever, the forums ar your friend, and you can find discussions covering the situation by searching.
Egmont ceased publication of Congo in 2014, and Casterman re-released it in 2016.
Egmont no longer publish Tintin, it's HarperCollins, under their Farshore children's imprint
