Hi,

I am relatively new to Tintin, and recently purchased a very nice copy of l’Ile Noir at an estate sale. How do I know what year it was published?

The only clue I can find is on Page 62 the last page where the print on the bottom corner shows -
Imprime en Belgique par Casterman, s.a. tournai
D.1966/0053/35

This copy is in amazing condition so I thought it may have been produced more recently.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The French editions are identifiable datewise by the back covers with the printed list of albums, the precise format changed over the years. You need to check a cotes BDM list on the web to identify a cover and correlate with a date.

Basically the albums divide into 3 series, A 1937-45, B 1945-75, and C 1975- to the present.
