Identification Please: Which book features sacrifice of Snowy?

I have a weak memory about some trying to sacrifice Snowy. Can anyone remember where this is from? My guess was Prisoners of the Sun, but that's not right.

Now I have no clue.

He's almost sacrificed in The Broken Ear as well.
