Cigars of the Pharaoh: what were they going to do to Tintin and co?

I'm confused as to what the drug smugglers were planning to do with Tintin, Snowy and Dr Sarcophagus. If they were going to mummify them, surely they would have done so in the Pharaoh's tomb instead of trying to load them onto Allan's ship and take them somewhere else?

They were supposed to be mummified at the tomb but the bearers take the sarcophagie to Allan by mistake. After the coast guard have left, Allan receives a telegram informing him of this but has already chucked them overboard because he thought they contained opium.

The whole thing was a mix-up.

Now that I think of it, this question raises a very interesting point.. Yes the coffins were shipped to Allan by mistake..instead of the drugs...

However, Allan did recover the coffin with Sarcophagus in it..Then why wasn't Sarcophagus mummified, as he was originally supposed to be? Why did they instead choose to make him go mad? They would have got rid of at least one of their problems if they had mummified him, wouldn't they?

After recovering Sarcophagus, Allan sends a message to his boss over the incident. The incident may have delayed another smuggling operation and Allan's boss may have decided that instead of wasting time by taking Sarcophagus back to the tomb, Allan had better proceed to India in order to deal with another assignment.

As for Sarcophagus, well, he already shows signs of eccentricity and possible mental disturbance even before finding the tomb, so making him completely crazy and letting him loose in the Indian jungle may have seemed to be enough.
