Hi everyone.

As a kid I think I probably read each Tintin book at least 4-5 times, and always dreamed of owning the entire collection.
Now I have saved up enough money and looking into buy them.
But everywhere I look I read reviews where people are complaining about the size of the text in the books; apparently its too small).

Does anyone know store where I can buy the large sized ones (larger than A4 sheets) in Canada?
All the ones I have seen are from egomont.co.uk.

Thanks and much appreciated.

There isn't larger than A4, that is the "standard" size of the books. Perhaps you've seen reviews for the 3-in-1 editions, or the newer "Young Readers Edition", which are about A5 size? I don't own any of those editions myself but, personally speaking, I found the text way too small. However, many people like them since they're a cost effective way of getting the whole collection (and maybe they've got better eyesight than me!)

For the English language books, Egmont is the UK publisher and Little, Brown the US publisher (there are also other publishers for the English black and white facsimiles).

As for where to buy them in Canada; have you seen our shops directory? There are some stores in Canada listed there.

The standard-sized Tintin albums actually are slightly larger than A4.

Well, if you want to get all technical about it! ;-)

I just measured one of the paperbacks I own (The Black Island) and discovered that it is actually 5mm wider (21.5cm) and 2mm shorter (29.5cm) than A4. So I suppose, area-wise, it is actually slightly bigger!

Admittedly I assumed that tintincanada was thinking there was an even bigger version, after he'd read reviews of the smaller books. But I guess only tintincanada can tell us what he was thinking...

As Harrock says, the standard paperbacks are very close to A4. But the standard hardbacks are a bit bigger than A4, with the covers being about 10mm taller and 15mm wider than the paperback. (The inside pages are a little smaller than the covers, of course, as in all hardback books, but are still bigger than the A4-ish paperback pages, particularly in the width.) So maybe it was the hardbacks that tintincanada was referring to.

However, the actual printed material in the standard hardbacks is the same size as in the standard paperbacks; it's just that the hardbacks' pages have more generous white margins, particularly at the sides.

Indeed, you're right about the covers. I was measuring the pages, not the covers. But, the pages in the Egmont Hardback books (I just measured Alph-art and Congo) are exactly the same as the (Magnet) paperback I measured earlier, 29.5cm by 21.5cm. So to compare I took a look at an old Methuen hardback and it was 22cm wide, but I make it the same height (29.5cm). So I suppose it all depends on which book(s) you're measuring, and whether you count the cover as the size of the books, or not...?
