From the BBC News website:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-18275364

"A collection of Tintin memorabilia is about to go under the hammer in Paris, with a rare cover drawn by the author himself expected to fetch a record 1m euros."

Its nice to see a glimpse of the old magazine covers, particularly the Tintin in America one.

It might be because I'm a fan, and so sensitive to this kind of thing, but it kind of irked me to hear the reporter talk about Tintin as some relic of the past (someone people used to read about, rather than still are)- ignoring completely the recent movie, which you'd imagine would help boost the auction prices, and therefore be worth a mention in the article.

A debate in French sparked by the auction and the publicity surrounding it :

The subject being if Tintin deserves to be "the most expensive comic in the world".

Well, somebody certainly appears to think it should be: Tintin cover fetches record-breaking 1.3m euros (US $1.6m).

Apparently, among the items was "a copy of Explorers on the Moon, signed by the first men to walk on the Moon, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, and fellow astronaut Michael Collins."

I also found it slightly odd how the reporter didn't seem to recognise Tintin's fame which is still as big as ever, not as he put it; "he WAS one of the worlds most famous reporters..." Ahem, he still is!
