Just a heads up to anyone going to the SDCC that there are at least a couple of things for the Tintinolgist to look out for.

Last Gasp Books of San Francisco will have a number of items of Tintin merchandise on their stand in the exhibitors’ hall, some of which are making their first appearances in the U.S. They are a company with a long history of supporting Tintin and Hergé in America, so if you are planning to go, be sure to drop by their booth and see what’s on offer.

And Weta, (who were so instrumental in the production of last year’s The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of The Unicorn movie) will be giving a presentation about their forthcoming films based on The Hobbit. They will be in Room 6DE on Thursday, July 12th, from 10:15-11:15.

My two favorite book series, Lord of the Rings (including The Hobbit) and Tintin! By any chance, do you know if the Last Gasp booth will have new black-and-white Tintin translations in English? They stopped at Blue Lotus a while ago.

Can’t say I do, no, although I’m not expecting it…! Merchandise was all they have mentioned to me so far. But you’d have to be there to know for certain!

Update! Last Gasp have been in touch with the following message:
“We still have some plush Snowy & some rockets, as well as some of the small scenes, but not sure how long they'll last!”

They sent a link to this picture, so I’m guessing they still have some shark subs going!

Anyway, if you are at SDCC, please drop by the Last Gasp booth, and see what they have in stock - and let us know how it goes!

Update to the update!

Further word from Last Gasp says that they have one shark sub remaining, plus some rockets and the plush toys.

Additionally, I’ve been told that they have no concrete plans to do the other B&W facsimiles at this time, but that they are discussing the possibility, and will let us know if ever they actually proceed with the series.
