Hi,

Has anyone seen this link?
Découvrez la reproduction miniature de la voiture de Tintin au pays de l'or noir!
(Check out this miniature reproduction of the vehicle from Tintin in the Land of Black Gold!)

It shows that the cost of this Tintin car is only 4.99 Euro. Is it true? I don't know French. Can anyone confirm this?

PS. I bought each car at 24 EUR.

Yes it’s true, but like so many of these collection things, it’s only an introductory offer: they did exactly the same thing the first time these were out, only I think they were offering the Model T Ford from Congo back then.

It’s almost to be expected with these sorts of series - you get a substantial discount on your first item, and often a reduced item for the second and third, plus a “gift” of some sort (in this case a reprint of the world map by Hergé), and then later the price creeps up, and you end up spending hundreds of pounds or Euros or whatever to complete the set…

Also notice that they often disguise/ leave out what the actual price is going to be, and how many items there will be in the set - that way its harder to judge what you are letting yourself in for.

I once had a colleague who started buying his wife a week-by-week painting course magazine: by the time they had all the parts, and paid for all the magazines, she could have paid for a year at art school…

The offer is for 4€99.

It's the first of a series of model cars being offered. Others will include Haddock's car from "Seven Crystal Balls", the Thom(p)sons' battered Citroën 2CV, the India taxi from "Tibet" and the car of the reckless Italian driver from "Calculus Affair".

It's standard practice: the first one is sold cheaply and the ones that follow will quite likely be more expensive.

They are also offering a leaflet giving details of the jeep and its history, as well as a map drawn by Herge back in 1932, a week before "Cigars of the Pharaoh" started being published in "Le Petit Vingtième". (They say that it's a map of the world, but actually it's only of Asia.)

Moderator Warning: Once again, please don't link directly to images on other people's sites; the image is available through a link on the Atlas page (as linked to above), and all you need to do is tell people where to find the link if you don't think they will be able to find it themselves (e.g. "If you click on the link which says 'Cliquez ici pour zoomer', you'll see a larger version of the map".)

Just presenting an image from another site is leeching, and that isn't right or fair, as that site loses the traffic which might have gone there, meaning they are doing all the work, and losing the bandwidth for no return. Please always direct people to the page where the item is made available, so that the site concerned is getting benefit.

This has to be your final warning, as using other people's images indiscriminately has been brought to your attention before, here and here.

This red Jeep was released in April 2007 and at the time I paid EU 21.80 for it. Atlas seem to re start with a draw card as Jock mentioned. There have been many more cars since then but when it reached around 70 cars it was finished and there has been no new releases that I am aware off.I purchased the whole series and just love it....

So, should I continue collecting the old Atlas Edition of 70 cars, if the news cars are similarly the same?
The new cars in orange base, are much cheaper than the blue base.

I wouldn’t be certain, unless you’ve found something which says how much they are actually going to cost; as mentioned above, the price of 4.99€ appears to be for the first car only (or perhaps the first two or three, depending on the nature of the offer) - after that, the price will most certainly go up!

Thank you Jock. I will continue my blue base collection.
