I was wondering what everyone's favourite comedy moments were in the Tintin series?

For me it has to be the beginning of Red Rackham's Treasure at Calculus' apartment, having Haddock go thru his clothes brushing machine and the Detectives getting hit by the bed.

It's the deadpan way that Cuthbert answers the questions after mishearing them that makes me laugh out loud every time.

IMO this is the only time that the whole deaf/ mishearing thing really works in the series. Of course I'm not counting Lake of Sharks where the use of it is hilarious ;)

I think the "kids these days..." conversation between Alcazar and Tapioca at the end of Picaros (where they ruminate over the erosion of coup d'état morals when Alcazar wasn't allowed to shoot his rival) is probably the funniest.

I also always get a chuckle out of Thomson running into Tintin in the middle of the desert, in the midst of a sandstorm, and only getting excited to see his hat. (They dumb this down in the Ellipse-Nelvana series, unfortunately... he's equally excited to see Tintin).

The Swiss traffic cop's reluctance to issue Arturo Benedetto Giovanni Giuseppe Pietro Archangelo Alfredo Cartoffoli da Milano a traffic ticket for fear of needing to write down his entire name (Calculus Affair). :)

The courtroom debacle in Picaros is also quite amusing.

1 - when our heroes meet Professor Bergommot in the Seven Crystall Balls - Haddock's expression as his hand is being crushed and when Bergammot laughs is priceless
2- Alcazar going ballistic after loosing the chess game in the broken ear
3- the human snowballs flying off the cliff in Temple of the Sun after being hit by Haddock...

There are so many, its hard to enumerate. Here are "a few" that I liked most.

The outburst of Calculus on being called 'a goat' by Haddock in Destination Moon.

The radio conversation between Jolyon Wagg and Haddock in The Calculus Affair.

All frames involving Abdullah and Haddock.

The literary genius of M/s. Thomson and Thompson.
1. West bishes / wet dishes (best wishes)
2. Professor Bathtub found asleep in the reeds (Prof. Reedbuck found asleep in his bathtub)

Everytime Haddock hears the Jewel Song from Faust.

My most favourite comedy or gag in the Tintin adventures is:
When Captain Haddock is searching for his pipe when the test rocket has been launched in "Destination Moon". I love the expression on Baxter's face when he says "Dont worry! I think Captain has found his pipe".

The Thom(p)son's awkward greeting to King Muskar XII:
"Majesty, your sire is very good... Good Majesty... no, I mean..."
"To be precice... it's a Majesty, Your Pleasure..."

Always cracked me up that :)

My favorite would have to be the Thom(p)son's innocent reaction in Explorers on the Moon, when Calculus tells them they are landing in the sea, and they say that they have not been to the sea-side in ages. Then Haddock says that they could use some Punch-and-Judy men on the pier.

One of my other favorites is when Cpt. Haddock starts to sing “The Jewel Song” from Faust (Castifiore Emerald), and Calculus thinks a storm is brewing.

So am I the only one here that found the Thompsons annoying rather than amusing? Probably the least of my characters in the series...

I think you are. Thom(p)sons are hilarious. Why did you find them annoying?

I guess word plays were never my brand of comedy...Haddock's misfortunes are the ones that usually leave me laughing out loud
