Nirendranath Chakraborty, who translated The Adventures of Tintin into Bengali for the first time (the first translation of Tintin into an Indian language), passed away on 25th December, 2018 due to age related problems at the age of 94.

He famously renamed the Thom(p)sons into Jonson and Ronson and renamed Snowy into the equally adorable Kuttush.
It is needless to say that his translations was pretty successful in keeping the Tintin vibe from the books alive.

However, his contributions in Bengali go far beyond Tintin. His contribution to modern Bengali literature is irreplaceable and he will be sorely missed in the Bengali literature community.
