Novelist, scriptwriter and comics writer André-Paul Duchâteau has died at the age of 95. He has been described as "one of the most productive scriptwriters of Franco-Belgian comics". He is best known as a crime writer but sometimes also included elements of science-fiction in his stories.

He was a major contributor to the weekly comic Tintin, of which he was also editor from 1976 to 1979.

His first stories were published when he was 15.

For Tintin magazine he worked with dozens of artists on many series, but he is best known for his work with the artist Tibet (aka Gilbert Gascard) on such series as Ric Hochet, about a Tintin-like reporter who spends more time actually fighting crime than reporting it, and Chick Bill, a comedy Western series which also included criminal investigations.

Among his many awards, M. Duchâteau was knighted by the Belgian King in 1991.

As far as I can make out, his work has not been published in English.

A very lengthy and detailed account of his career can be found at his entry at Lambiek's comiclopedia.
