Following Richard's news of the English-language version of Albert Algoud's book about Haddock's curses, according to a post on Twitter by Patrice Guérin of the Les Amis de Hergé group, Casterman are to release a "special edition" of Le Crabe aux Pinces d'Or, due to arrive on the 3rd of November, as part of the celebrations of Captain Haddock's eightieth anniversary this year.
What form this publication will take - colour, black-and-white, facsimile of a previous version, or something else - doesn't seem to have been revealed yet, but we'll let you know as soon as it is!

What would you like to see in such a celebratory release?

I would like the original newspaper publication (in black and white) with documentation to describe where Hergé got his inspiration, such photos which he used to draw the ships or the streets of the Arab town.

The Thom(p)sons are originally investigating a case of fake coins. Was that based on an actual case of the time? To confuse the police, the drug smugglers used tin cans that were also available in the shops: was that also inspired by a real-life case?

Hmmm... Can't rule it out, nor would I want to, as it sounds great, but it's sort of been done...
There's already a very nice collection of the Soir Jeunesse material available as Du Crabe Rouge au Crabe aux Pinces d'Or, which came out in 2013; my gut feeling is that that probably used up most of the available back-ground material, albeit that there isn't a lot of it in the book.

But never say never...!

The special anniversary edition is available - but is only published in French. Hope Casterman prints an English edition.
