Joyeux anniversaire, Mr Tintin!

It was 97 years ago today that Tintin made his debut in issue no.11 of Le Petit Vingtième. Tintin and Snowy boarded a train at Gare du Nord station in Brussels, en route to the Soviet Russia.

The drawings were cruder than the style we're familiar with today and storylines were rarely worked out in advance. Situations were improvised weekly. As Hergé said,"Le Petit Vingtième came out on Wednesday evenings and I often didn't have a clue on Wednesday morning how I was going to get Tintin out of the predicament I had put him in the previous week".

But the story was a huge and immediate success, and here we are today, 97 years later!
